Hot off the Vine

The reset of the Store went off last month flawlessly almost without a glitch fairly well-anyway, it happened and nobody got hurt(badly). More room for Spain, Australia got new territory, etc.,so look now for some streamlining of what's in stock, with a big emphasis on "under-appreciated" wineries- some little guys who deserve a shot, based on the quality of what we taste weekly, some surprisingly big names who get forgotten in the rush of new products, some wines just from places and/or grapes still a bit exotic, some wines I just like a lot and am willing to bet you will, too.

Other big news - James is leaving!!! He's been at Four Corners for a good long time, for the last two years as Store Manager- which is a little like herding cats- and Wine buyer(and taster, I might add!). He's going to take his wine knowledge and British accent on the road as a Sales Rep- Truly, he'll be missed- and we all wish him Luck! A new face to look for at four corners is Nick Brunner (James's brother). He is looking to learn the business and we are very happy to welcome him aboard!

Cellar News

Spring sprang up on us- Time to look at the lighter styles of wines, so, with that in mind we're going to run a month-long sale on Burgundies, both white and red- a category which, to be honest, we haven't promoted very much, but as I taste them I realize how well they are in accord with current taste-Pinot noir being a grape enjoying a great resurgence, and the Burgundian style of un-(or lightly oaked) Chardonnay is still on the rise.

Actually, as I write this we're preparing to do a Dinner at Slade's Inn featuring the Burgundies of Louis Latour(We'll be tasting their '99 vintage Ch. Corton Grancey, which got a perfect 100 Point score from the Wine

Spectator, and a number of others). Latour is a perfect example of that bigger name which got lost in the shuffle, but they're great wines, some of which are really unbelievably inexpensive, and they've been picked up by a new distributor who is determined to put them back on the map in Maryland-I'm pleased to help, especially since I'll have to taste through them all(It's my job, man)

UPCOMING EVENTS

Watch out for Icebergs- FridayApril 25th @ Slade's they're recreating the Menu served on the last night of the Titanic- the menu's not set yet(the original menu is huge, so they'll pare it down) so I don't know what the wines will be-I'll pair them up as soon as the food's set. Rent a Formal Lifejacket and join us!

If we can, we're going to put on another 95- Point- and- above Tasting, but we haven't yet settled on a time & place-Greystone Grill and Christopher-Daniels are possibilities-They've both done great jobs in the past.

Also- one of these days Clarendon Hills Winery is going to release their '05 vintages- They've all been rated very highly, and as soon as they're released we'll taste them- This may be on short notice, so watch the website, and if you're on our email list (if you're not, get on it, Dude) & you get a heads-up, drop everything and come to this one- The wines are incredible, and because they were supposed to be released for an earlier tasting we held, the distributor is going to hold the prices to last years pricing, just for this Tasting-a real bargain, plus some of the wines will be in such short supply this may be the only opportunity to buy them at all.
