Hot
of the Vine
Hot
is the operative word, at least as I write these
words- Good excuse to drink beer, though!! Stop by
and ask one of the beer guys what's new- there's
always something (Stone Cellars, from San Diego, for
instance) As for Summertime wines- You know me, I've
always got an idea or two. e. g. Mapreco vinho verde($6.99)
or Alexander Valley vineyards New Gewurz ($9.99),
both of which are slightly fizzy ( the technical
term is frizzante or petillant) and really
refreshing.
Also, we've acquired a new lot of Beaujolais, mostly
from Duboeuf, which are reds that chill down nicely,
and we've got a great group of rosés from just about
everywhere that makes one.
This is the
time of year we look to setting up Wine Dinners and
Tastings for the Fall- Ya gotta grab the Winemakers
and owners as they set up their schedules - They
have to make an educated guess about the coming
harvest and budget their time accordingly.
Two vintners have already commited to us, both of
whom I hold in high regard- Michael De Loach, with
his new winery "Hook and Ladder", and Chris Deardon
of Benessere. Both are from California, and both are
good winemakers- We'll nail down dates & places
ASAP, and I'll make noises to alert you.

Cellar News

Talk to me much and you'll discover I'm neither a
Francophile nor a Francophobe- nobody gets a free
ride(except Italy, perhaps!)
It is my contention that recently French wines,
despite the bite the Euro takes out of the Dollar ,
have maintained their pricepoints- and with most of
the rest of wine prices creeping uphill, the fact
that they've stayed steady redounds heavily in their
favor- All of this is leading to the perhaps not
startling revelation that we're going to put
FRENCH WINES ON SALE THROUGHOUT AUGUST!!!
Exciting, no? Try some of the Liore Valley Sauvignon
blancs $11-15 will get you some good juice- or,
if you want a red, Corbieres and Minervois have some
real sleepers.

Wine-O-File Datebook
We are, as I said above, gearing up for the Fall ,
with Tastings galore (Well, we're gonna have a few,
anyway) but ,twixt now and then ,we'll conduct a few
in-store tastings- Another change in the Store's
layout: We've got an endcap devoted to the current
Sale Region, and yet another that will showcase any
Wines which we've never carried before. This affords
new entries a place in the limelight- before they're
lost in the glare of the wonderful bargains already
on the shelf
Also, This
month's wine sale - all of France- 17% discount from
